Antje Schiffers has set herself a challenging task for her solo exhibition at Haus Coburg. Guided by the question of what role culture plays in urban contexts, she traveled to Delmenhorst’s sister cities to conduct on-site research as a diplomatic representative and correspondent for the Städtische Galerie. Her travels took her to Lublin (Poland), Kolding (Denmark), Allonnes (France), Eberswalde (State of Brandenburg), and Borisoglebsk (Russian Federation). In all these cities, Antje Schiffers collected souvenirs—whether textiles or figurines, interviews, videos, photographs, or her notes. From these gathered fragments, she has created the exhibition in Delmenhorst. She tells the story from a personal perspective, sometimes focusing on details and trivialities that take on significance through her eyes.

In the rooms of Haus Coburg, a separate presentation area has been created for each partner city, on which Antje Schiffers worked together with the Leipzig architect Christian Göthner (lfm2). These displays were constructed by the City of Delmenhorst’s building department and the firm Sandkuhl, before Antje Schiffers filled the spaces with texts, objects, and wall drawings.

Antje Schiffers (born 1967 in Heiligendorf near Wolfsburg) studied art, history, and philosophy at the University of Fine Arts and the Technical University of Braunschweig. Since then, she has received numerous residency grants and awards.

Her journey and the exhibition are documented on this website: sistercities.antjeschiffers.de
